This is a medium angle of a Tamil teenage male.
He is wearing headphones which could suggest he is anti-social and has an interest in music.
He sits on a sofa with a smirk which could suggest he is slightly embarrassed that the photo is being taken, some may even portray the picture as the Tamil being uncomfortable with his looks as he isn't welcoming to the photo.
Although the actor may be slightly embarrassed, he still looks very comfortable relaxing on the sofa suggesting he may have a laid back personality
The actor is looking away from the camera to portray a sense of embarrassment.
The photo is in colour, but the actor is wearing clothing which would usually be associated as outer wear rather than inner wear suggesting the room may be cold.
The shot was achieved using a teenage male sitting on a sofa, with headphones covering his ears.

Media Presentation
- What did you have to do and what was the purpose of the task?
- What did you have to do and what was the purpose of the task?
The purpose of the task was to understand how the media and newspapers edit images to create headlines and how sometimes we may be decieved by what we read or see. Our task was to take a random image and crop it and give it a suitable headline.
- What have you learnt in terms of skills, key concepts and ideas etc...
The skills i learnt were how to use photoshop and how to crop which was very straightforward. I also learnt the skills of what to crop on a picture and how the media remove certain parts of a picture to fit a headline better or to expose someone/something.
- What would you do differently if you had the chance?
If i had the chance to do the task differently i would change the picture we used as we found it very limited and both our croppings were very similar. Also I would include a more punchier headline as in a newspaper a catchy or bolder headline usually gets us reading it.
- What lessons have you learnt in terms of pre-production / production; in other words, how will you be more efficient next time?
Now we know how to use Photoshop and are more familiar with using the Macs, we will now get straight to photoshop and locate our files rather than wasting some valuable time we could've used to edit the photo.
Enemy of the State questions
1. What is the point of this sequence? Describe briefly how tension is created through the editing.
Tension is created by the short scenes and music in the background. The point of the sequence is to give us an idea of how the government are controlling while we are unaware. It gives us an idea of what the film is about and what ideas are being generated
2. Look at the use of CU or Medium CU. Why are they primarily used here? Refer to specific shots (screengrab them if you can [with Fn Print Screen then Control - V on a PC] and embed them within your post).
This shows the character of Will Smith reacting sadly to something he has just found out. The director has filmed it like this to give us the feeling of depression and reluctance shared with Will Smith.
3. Choose 15-20 seconds from anywhere in the sequence and describe each shot in detail, explaining its effect / function for the audience, as well as commenting on how the cuts (the editing) adds to the meaning.
I chose 0:38-0:46 which is a scene where Will Smith's wife is outraged by what she has just heard on the news relating to the government while Will Smith is much more relaxed about it. But the irony is that he will soon be heavily involved with the government affairs. This gives the audience a slight indication what type of person Will Smith is and also what type of encounters Will Smith will embark.
4. How far does the editing of this sequence fit in with the genre of the thriller? Justify your opinion.
It fits in as it is quite fast paced and builds tension by grabbing out attention to things which we wouldn't expect. However, there aren't many action scenes such as chases or combat which would generally be associated with thrillers.

What did you have to do and what was the purpose of the task?
The purpose of the task was to understand the different types of camera shots and how you can create a scene from simple still images. Also to understand how effective these simple shots can be as shown in the film 'The Good the Bad and the Ugly'.
- What have you learnt in terms of skills, key concepts and ideas etc...
I have learnt the different types of camera shots and angles and how each shot can be interpreted. Some key ideas we came across were that just a simple facial expression or stance can be portrayed a long way.
- What would you do differently if you had the chance?
If I were to do this task again, I would definately change some of our facial expressions as some of them are just 'normal' and don't tell a story. Also, I would add some background music to add to the tension being built, enhancing the scene.
- What lessons have you learnt in terms of pre-production / production; in other words, how will you be more efficient next time?
We will all decide on a set location of the school rather than wandering about trying to find one wasting valuable time. Also we could create a more detailed storyboard which is easier for the director to understand and remember as our one was very simple and it didn't have any annotations on it, making the directors and the actors job a little more difficult.
